Señora de Lima - aka la Tía Juana

I first became a Spanish teacher almost 20 years ago now after at least three other careers in addition to motherhood. I discovered my love for and ease with learning languages when my entrepreneurial father took us to live in Mexico City for two years when I was in the 5th grade. I went to a British school and took French in addition to Spanish and was immersed in Mexico City life just off la Avenida Reforma in the early 1970s (think “Roma”). I’ll save those tales for another post.  But suffice it to say the languages and cultures fires were ignited.

I have a  lot of passion for and real life experience in both Spanish and Portuguese but the teaching part was mostly new to me except for having taught a few ESL classes.  Now, a few more turns around the sun,  I have taught middle school Spanish in both public and private schools, I started my own language immersion camp business and helped to found a Saturday Spanish heritage language school and community organization in my home state of North Carolina.

In this blog I will share my experience, some tips and tricks and if all goes well, some hope for busy language teachers out there.

¡Bienvenidos! Welcome! Bem Vindo!
