Over five years ago we had the dream and vision of having a foreign language experience that was local, fun and engaging! Immersion Island now is beginning its fifth year of language immersion camps in Chapel Hill. Hundreds of kids from as far away as the Caribbean, Chicago and Arizona have joined us for both day and overnight Spanish immersion camps. We have been using New Hope Camp’s beautiful 60-acre retreat site which truly makes the experience all the fun of a summer camp while immersed in a foreign language. It is really like we are in “Tia Juana’s” house. One camp session never has more than 25 staff and participants so we really become a tight-knit group of amigos by the end of the stay on the Island! This year we plan to add French camp. And we are starting a new concept which we tested last summer – the hybrid camp! It is mostly a day camp with one overnight stay on the last night leading up to the fun-filled final day of camp on Friday. This year by demand we are also adding a week dedicated just to K-2nd graders! Plan to join us for a week or more to practice that last key piece to language learning – conversation- while also just having a ton of fun and learning a lot about other cultures!
